Happy New Year’s everyone! You’re probably busy cleaning up after the festivities but also thinking about your resolutions for 2024. I know the more common resolutions are getting fit, making more money, etc, but what about cleaning resolutions? Here are some New Year’s cleaning resolutions that you should add to your list:
1. Declutter
Now is the perfect time of year to start decluttering. You can do this by picking out whatever method speaks to you the most and following that. Some examples are the KonMari Method, Swedish Death Cleaning (yes, really!), or a general decluttering list. You’ll find that getting rid of the stuff you just don’t use, or things that don’t bring you joy, really helps to not only clear your space but your mind. Starting off a new year with a clutter-free home and mind is the way to go!
2. Chore Chart
This one is great if you have kids but also works if it’s just adults in the home. It’s time to make a chore chart! Divvy up all of the chores (make sure they’re age-appropriate for kids!) and make it a visible chart or board that everyone can clearly see what they are responsible for. Often, throughout the year, people fall behind or slack away from their chores and they either don’t get done or they fall on the same person. Time to fix that!
3. Deep Clean
This one can also be done in the spring if the weather around you is too harsh, but it’s a good idea to give your home a nice deep clean. Grime and general debris tend to pile up in those tiny corners, so give them a good scrub. This is a great thing to do after you’ve finished decluttering! Of course, if you don’t have the time (or the patience) to do a deep clean, give us a call or fill out our form. We’d love to deep clean your home!
4. Switch to Green Cleaning Products
We hope you’re already using them, but sometimes it’s not possible or you want to finish up a bottle of something you already have. When it’s time to replace it, make it a green cleaner. It’s better for you and the environment! You can breathe easier without those fumes that tend to linger for a couple of days (here’s looking at you, bleach!).
5. Make an Annual To-Do List
This one can be done with your chore chart, but essentially, there are some jobs that only need to be done monthly, once every couple of months, every 6 months, etc. We’re talking things like cleaning out the gutters, replacing filters, flipping the mattress, sweeping out the fireplace if you have one, etc. Make a list of those, how often you have to do them, and put it next to your chore chart with the dates you need to do them. This way, you’ll always have a reminder to do those chores that aren’t done often. I don’t know about you, but I can use all the reminders I can get!
